At long last

I have started Tandia, the sequel to my favorite book of all time, The Power of One by South African born author Bryce Courtenay (he now lives in Australia).

I'm going in with limited expectations, as virtually everyone I know who has read it has commented that it's nowhere near as good as the first. I recently read April Fool's Day, the true story of how Bryce's son died of AIDS, which he contracted as an infant through a blood transfusion. Bryce was writing Tandia during the final months of his son's life, so I suppose it's not surprising that critics say it loses focus throughout its 900 pages.
