Gas Snififng and Good Acting

Jane and I spent the afternoon watching Love Liza starring Philip Seymour Hoffman. Not exactly what I would call an "uplifting" movie, but once again, Philip Seymour Hoffman pulls off a very difficult role: a gas sniffing widower trying to cope with the fact that his wife killed herself. What do others think about it?

I think he's up there with Ed Norton as my favorite male actor these days. They just make such smart movies. PSH's credits include, among many others, Love Liza, State and Main, Almost Famous, The Big Lebowski...even way back to Scent of a Woman, which was good despite Chris O'Donnell, who registers fairly high on the annoying scale.
